Photo Topic Mark III

Postby Skids » Tue Jun 12, 2007 2:28 pm

With all the movie toy photos and such, I thought we should start a new topic. (The old just hit six pages).

Dear Jazz: I love you.

I dunno, many knock it, but I like the unusual looks of many of the combined-mode 'bots. I also like the meaty, chunky proportions of the individual figures. Energon was probably my favorite line in recent memory. (Sure, make no mistake, Cybertron was awesome, too, for its articulation and aesthetics, but Energon brought the fun factor and old-schooliness.)

Every so often, like a wrathful God, Samuel L. Motherhugging Jackson descends upon my Transformers. This morning was one such occasion. We had an earthquake at about 4 AM, and when I awoke, I found that Mr. Motherhugging Jackson had fallen from his usual perch atop my bulletin board, where he glares down like a baleful God, onto my desk where my movie toys are. Predictably, because Mr. Jackson was displeased with having been so rudely awakened, havoc ensued:

"We got giant motherhuggin' ROBOT SCORPIONS in this motherhuggin' desert!"

"I have a right to remain WHAT, Motherhugger??!!"

"I don't like you much either, Motherhugger!"

Motherhuggin' Amen. :D

When I was at my dads last, with a brandnew Brawl, I took a few shots of him out in nature.

First the 'Nam series:

Well, I still feel the Griffon needs to make an appearance. And then I can have him fight my Master Gundam!

But yep, and (Warning, otaku spiel coming up)...

...Patlabor is one of my all time favorite anime series (Probably largely in part because much of Studio Headgear's personnel were culled from the staff of Kitty Films' Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku, two of my other all time favorite shows.) Pretty important folks, too, including UY director Mamoru Oshii and UY/Ikkoku character designers Akemi Takada, Maison Ikkoku's Kenji Kawai (Music), as well as a huge swath of UY/Ikkoku voice actors. Interesting bit of Patlabor trivia: Shigeru Shiba, the assistant engineer character in Patlabor, is both an homage in name to his own voice actor, Chigeru Chiba, and visually (And in terms of characterization) to Chiba's famous UY character, Megane. Seriously, Shige could be Megane's little brother, for all we know! It almost makes Patlabor feel like a Takahashi-inspired mecha series.

Thank goodness there's finally good Patlabor merchandise out there besides the Master Grade kits and the older model kits.
