That's Don for ya. Give the man a damned toyline already. (And no, Titaniums don't count; give him a toyline to design where the sculptors A. Can see and B. Have hands.

Here's a sketch cover with the same design:

I like it; Megs being a gun didn't make sense anymore in-story once he disposed of the Phased strategy.

This transforms into an Earth stealth bomber, so it also suits his purposes (disguise, I guess) better than his Cybertronian tank form.

I believe that James Roberts and John Barber will be taking over the TF comics from Costa soon (I missed the IDW panel, but read this somewhere). This is fantastic news. We already know that Roberts is an excellent writer, but Barber has been doing great work on the movie comics...he is a continuity fanatic. This could be what we need to get things back on track.

Mike Costa will be stepping down after Chaos, and we get two new ongoings, one with Roberts/Roche, the other Barber/Griffith!

Sweet! Roberts and Barber will turn the lackluster writing situation around!

Eh, honestly? I'm not all that excited. It's cool I guess, but it dramatically lessens the possiblity of Animated continuing in comic form. And that needs a continuation a LOT more than the Marvel G1 comics. Especially since the OTHER two TF comics IDW will be putting out in 2012 (so far as we know) will be G1-based, too.

How would it lessen the chances? It's not like there's a rule about how many titles one can put out under a single brand... look at the X-men. There's like 25 titles they're involved with.

Besides, when I was 10, I got a subscription to Transformers...5 issues before it was cancelled! Sweet justice!

Looks like the Barber/Griffith (Griffith is doing REALLY good work these days!) title, Robots in Disguise, might be set on Cybertron, like a prequel. Bee is his WFC design, I think.

It would be neato if Roberts' last two fantastic pre-war Cybertron issues were setting us up for it. Rise of Prime and Megatron, etc. It's really interesting how Megatron started out as a disillusioned intellectual (Thanks, Whirl, for making Megatron into what he is today!), and Prime as a police captain.

I have a lot of faith in Barber as editor in charge of the TF titles; besides really caring about continuity (from his attempts to reconcile the movie continuity, which is a suicide-mission), one of his main questions in reviewing IDW's plans for TFs was "Why don't we have more James and Nick in here?" :smile2:

Chaos should be be a fun ride, too, with Roberts co-writing with Costa. Costa does a LOT better with a co-writer, for instance on G.I. Joe: Cobra.
And this art? Frickin' gorgeous!

This Japanese comic by Furman and Guido (to advertise Stepper) is a nice hint of what the official G1 continuation might be like!

I love how they used the Marvel-style coloring!
