G.I. Joe: Renegades/TF Prime: Now with character models!

Postby Skids » Tue May 04, 2010 11:53 am

I thought they deserved their own topic now! Since they are far off, we'll split the topics closer to the actual release dates, when more info becomes available.

I'll gather the info we have so far.
The first bit of recent news: Michael Bell (Original Duke) and BJ Ward (Original Scarlett) play the parents of the "Renegades" Duke in an episode. Damn, that is SO cool...!
Michael Bell To all my face bud fans. Just did a guest spot on the new Gi Joe animated series. Played Duke's dad.Duke being the ever talented Jason Marsden who incidentally, I directed in the Fox animated " Peter Pan" series way back when he was a mere teen. B J Ward played Duke's mom. What a kick to be back in the saddle again with old friends.

Also, the other news to date: (This one applies to both series):
they are looking to write and develop stories that lead up to other events/stories that tie into events that happen seasons later. The creative staff said the intention is that (if the shows are popular enough to viable) that they are planning four or five seasons ahead - that the stories and characters will continually develop and grow over (hopefully) many seasons. That character is extremely important and things that happen episode to episode still happened the next episode (that there are repercussions).

So if popular it seems TF Prime and G.I. Joe Renegade will be running continuously for the forseeable future - with a lot more to be revealed at Botcon (for TF Prime).

New cartoon toys launch in Fall 2011. Same style and feel.
Very close to the Resolute style animation
Realistic environment and danger (characters can get hurt or die)
Cobra Commander might have the classic mask
Classic Destro mask
No CG
Going back to the beginning:
We will get to see how certain characters get their code names and we will see continual development on all characters. We will see classic vehicles with a modern twist.

After the Hasbro team presented the new toys, the new team working on the upcoming Joe cartoon came onto the stage and confirmed that the name of the series is "G.I. Joe: Renegades."

The animated series will debut this Fall on the new Hub network which is co-owned by Hasbro. The show will take the Joe team back to the beginning and introduce the characters and fill in their backstory and origins, how they got their nicknames and how they joined the Joe team.

Joe will be "on the run" in this series and Cobra will be there, hounding them. Some of the points that the team covered:

* Pilot will be 2 parts
* Approximately 26 episodes planned with some eps strung in small story arcs
* Show is illustrated, not CG
* Not like Resolute but adult content (Think Clone Wars)
* Vehicles and weapons treated as characters, Joe & Cobra have unique equipment designs
* Characters will be classic
o Duke
o Snake Eyes
o Storm Shadow
o Cobra Commander (w/ classic mask)
o Destro
o Snow Job and Jinx hinted at
* Linear storytelling: each episode builds on the previous
* Characters will grow during the series
* There could be deaths on the show
* Some characters will stick around after intro, some will come and go
* Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow will be introduced in a 2-part origins arc
* May see some characters never done in the animated shows previously
* There may be some familiar names among the voice actors, no details yet

The Japanese CGI studio Digitalscape is working on TF: Prime in some capacity (Worked on Ninja Gaiden, Okami)
Writing team consists of Orci and Kurzman from the live-action movies, and Jeff Kline (MIB: The Series, Movie-based Godzilla animated series, Extreme Ghostbusters, Jackie Chan Adventures).

War for Cybertron is, according to the fan club, a prequel to this show. There's also a WFC tie-in novel describing how Prime and Megatron first met, were friends, had a torrid romance (I made that up), and then had a falling-out. The idea that WFC Bumblebee becomes a Movie-inspired Bee is supported by WFC Bee's bio, which refers to how he is now a "silent warrior" but used to talk a lot.

Cullen is Prime!
Advertising Age's article on Hasbro's The Hub reveals a wonderful tidbit. That's right, TF legend Peter Cullen, voice of Optimus Prime in G1 and the Live Action Films, is returning to television as Optimus Prime in "Transformers: Prime"!

Awesome to have him back on a regular basis!

Very small pic of Duke: art looks rather Resolute-style, as reported.

BB I think looks cool, very sleek and stylish with maintaining complexity, kinda like the Beast Wars 'toon.

Snake looks cool too, I like his pants, and the long torso.

And there's a certain Power Puff Girls quality to the MLP.

Those dogs... those dogs.

[Edit: Holy Frak! Bumble Bee's got Mutate proportions! And... are those three fingers I see?

I still believe WFC is the prequel to TF:Prime, as the official (read, Hasbro-sponsored) fan club and toy bio (Which mentions WFC Bee growing up into the "silent warrior" he is today indicate. Fans seem to have difficulty in believing it, even though it's come from two official sources, but I can see some WFC influence in "Prime" Bumblebee (And some Movie influence in WFC, just look at Megs and all of his sharp angles!)

I'm not treating it as separate, but they have 2 different titles. While in the same continuity, my stating the blend still works cause of the different titles. Besides: We've seen a ton of previews about WFC but this is the only thing we've seen about Prime beyond the title & a few names of who's playing roles. So, no, I'm not all "WFC is not the prequel to Prime," it's just they are separate series. I don't class Armada, Energon & Cybertron figures as all the same even though they're all part of the same continuity. The series all have different titles & even different asthetics between them. The figures follow a natural progression from 1 series to the next I have to say which makes them fit well as the same continuity. So, yeah.

I like the blend of WFC & Bayformers in Prime Bumblebee there. ;p
